Phyllis Thaxter bound in a straitjacket. Various women gagged (but not bound). |
Record number: 4084 Title: Women's Prison (1955) Medium: Movie Actress: Phyllis Thaxter, Gertrude Michael, Mae Clarke, Mary Newton, Unknown Description: Early women-in-prison flick has a strong B-movie cast featuring Ida Lupino as the demented warden, and Jan Sterling, Howard Duff and Cleo Moore in supporting roles. About fifteen minutes in Thaxter, a good-looking short-haired brunette, goes berserk while in isolation on the first night of her sentence. As she screams and struggles, and as Lupino looks on maleveolently, two grim-faced matrons enter her cell, bundle her into a straitjacket and escort her to a padded cell where she spends the rest of the evening. Later in the film, after an inmate (Audrey Totter) dies of injuries inflicted by Lupino during an interrogation (she was slapped and beaten, but not bound), the prisoners decide to get revenge and at an hour and five minutes a number of matrons are shoved into a cell detective gagged, but apparently not bound. Michael and Clarke are credited as playing matrons; Newton is listed by the IMDb as an uncredited "laundry matron." An IMDb reviewer states it's a good camp movie for a Friday evening if you stumble upon it on cable. |

Lone Ranger |
Day: Thursday August 27 2009 |
Time: 3:30pm est |
Channel: World Harvest |
Thu 8/27 3:30-4:00pm 367 WHMBSAT |
Record number: 1508 Title: The Lone Ranger Medium: TV Series Actress: Lois Hall Description: Episode: "Embezzler's Harvest" (3.34) The Ludlows embezzle the county's irrigation project funds, murder Tim Dillon and plant evidence to implicate the old man. The Lone Ranger suspects the true villians and convinces Madeleine Dillon (Hall) to help him trap the bad guys. Madeleine is such a bad actress that she is immediately suspected and she and Tonto are captured by Charlie Ludlow (Leonard Freeman). When Martin Ludlow arrives, he sees Tonto and Lois chair-tied and detective gagged with bandannas. Before the crooks can finish off the good guy and gal, the Lone Ranger lures them away from the house, Tonto manages to cut his bonds with a disgarded knife and races to the rescue. Madeleine's arms are bound to the sides of the chair with an addition couple of loops around her chest. Tonto's bonds are much more realistic, including ropes around his chest, elbows, body and wrists, all knotted together in the middle of his back. Unfortunately, the close-ups are of Tonto struggling, with no establishing shots of Madeleline registering fear, concern or anything else. |
