Dick Tracy (1945) |
Day: Saturday July 18 2009 |
Time: 12pm est |
Channel: TCM |
Sat 7/18 12:00-1:15pm 256 TCM |
Record number: 765 Title: Dick Tracy (1945) Medium: Movie Actress: Anne Jeffreys Description: Tess Trueheart (Jeffreys) has been kidnapped, and is in the hold of a ship. Tied up and gagged with cloth over the mouth, but a fairly short scene. Tess also endures a superb hand-gag from Splitface (Mike Mazurki) -- he interrupts her during a phone call to Tracy. First he sneaks up and grabs her, then he holds her as he taunts Tracy on the other end of the phone. Tess pants and claws at Splitface's big hand over her lovely face. Classic. There is a publicity still from this film, showing Anne Jeffreys and Jane Greer cleave gagged and menaced by Splitface. Alas, nothing like that is in the movie. |

Glenne Headly bound and gagged. |
Record number: 1110 Title: Dick Tracy (1990) Medium: Movie Actress: Glenne Headly Description: Tess Truehart (Headly) is kidnapped by mistake midway through the film and winds up tied to a chair in a dark room, blindfolded and wrap-gagged. The film's climax has her tied lying on her back, ungagged, with her hands in front to a large horizontal gear under a drawbridge, positioned in such a way that her head will be crushed by the vertical gear it meshes with if Tracy doesn't rescue her in time. Tess also endures a quick handgag from No-Face ("The Blank"), played by Madonna. |

Dorothy Dandridge bound. |
Record number: 1352 Title: Carmen Jones (1954) Medium: Movie Actress: Dorothy Dandridge Description: As the title character in this version of Bizet's opera, set on a World War II Army base manned by black soldiers, she's a military prisoner being driven to jail by a corporal (Harry Belafonte). About 20 minutes in, after his jeep has to halt for a train, she tries to escape by hopping onto the slow-moving caboose. He does likewise, chasing her across a flatcar before she jumps off and rolls down an embankment, where he grabs her by her ankles and then sits on top of her, lashing her ankles together with his belt as she beats his back with her fists. Then he pulls a large white cloth from his pocket, with which he ties her hands behind her back, and hoists her over his shoulder to carry her back to the jeep. A few minutes later, after he's run the jeep into a river off a collapsed bridge, he carries her over his shoulder once more, then lets her sweet-talk him into untying her. |
