Held Hostage
Day: Saturday January 02 2010
Time: 9PM EDT
Channel: Lifetime
Julie Benz is forced to rob her own bank.
Record number: 13877

Title: Held Hostage (2008)
Medium: Other
Actress: Emily Galash, Dayna Wilkes, Meggin Williams, Ari Montgomery

Description: Commercial sponsored by freeyourvote.net opens in an abandoned warehouse. A frightened young woman is apparently tied to a chair, wrists behind her back, and tightly gagged with a white cloth that covers most of her lower face. She's viewing news footage of the war, torture and other violent images. As the camera drops back, we see other victims, female and male (the women are more numerous and featured more prominently in close-ups), similarly trussed. The announcers remind the audience that, as a democracy, we have the power to make our voices heard with our vote and the prisoners suddenly realize that they are no longer tied. They remove their gags, stand up and march resolutely out the door and into the light.

The gags, both cleave and detective-style, appear to very tight; but we never get to see the ropes binding their wrists. (Indeed, the commercials producers may be stating that the victims bonds were only an illusion.) Nevertheless, the images of young people struggling while being forced to watch the terrifying images while apparently bound and definitely silenced is pretty scary.

The video, in versions lasting from 30 seconds to two minutes, was shown on televison, in movie theaters and on YouTube.

Channel: Lifetime
I posted the wrong movie. This is the correct Held Hostage.
Record number: 14328

Title: Held Hostage (2009)
Medium: TV Movie
Actress: Julie Benz, Natasha Calis

Description: Fact-based saga of a bank manager (Benz) and her daughter (Calis) taken captive in a home invasion by a gang plotting to force her to rob her workplace. Beginning about ten minutes in and continuing for maybe the next twenty, both are shown bound hand and foot with duct tape and gagged, Benz with a cloth stuffed into her mouth at first, but later with duct tape like Calis. Benz spends most of her screen time in a chair with her hands behind; Calis lies on a couch or in a bed with her hands in front. At the end of the sequence Benz is shown returning home to pull a bound and gagged Calis from a closet where the crooks left her during the heist.
