I read this forum was announced on Usenet. Usenet has changed since then... Sometimes downloading is the only option (that I know). I know some editors screenrip, I can tell by the 30/60fps framerates and the fact they post 1080p edits for services like Tubi which has no 1080p content. Anyway, you still get the adverts. I don't look at US content much so I don't know CW, but if this is free with ads, there's a good chance you'll be able to download it with yt-dlp. ChatGPT will tell you how to do it because it's a perfectly legitimate thing to do. If it doesn't work, and you get a message that says they use DRM, then you can still download it using free tools, but ChatGPT will give you a lecture and tell you not to be naughty. But as I know this is about finding scenes and fair use editing, I think these skills are important. DRM is not a huge obstacle on most services. If it's something that interests you, then go to VideoHelp.com and look at the Video Streaming and Downloading forum. There you will find instructions on exactly what to do for free services. They are very strict about paid services, but the technology is the same. You'll need to start by getting an L3 certificate. Some are posted there, but it's probably better to follow the instructions on dumping one with Android Studio, so you aren't sharing it with others. Since the main tools don't seem to support CW, I would use WidewineProxy2. That's will work on anything. The major services might restrict resolution unless you find an L1 cert. I've never found one. You can also buy tools to do the download.StreamFab is expensive and I was not impressed by the free trial. The tools which cost nothing seem better. On the other hand, TubeDigger cost only $25, it makes downloading from a non-DRM site trivially easy, and will record most DRM material, sometimes at high-speed depending on the site. It's not as good as a download if it needs to record, because it has to decode, then re-encode, which comes with a slight loss, but it avoids the issues of an external screen capture, and it won't record the adverts. You'll just get a clean mp4. For anyone making edits, it's $25 well spent. |
