As a few people point out, this seems to have been started back in 2019, so not sure what the state of it is now. From our viewpoint, it would be great to get nice clear copies of all those soap opera scenes from 1979 to 2012. Probably even some that we're not aware of.

It's available globally, if you know what I mean, just not on Amazon. Sadly, the putz is putting me off the 22Gb download (I could only find it as a single download for all the episodes in 4K).

1970s movie recall
I tried searching the database without success. I was wondering if anyone can recall a movie where an old man had a woman bound and gagged in a room near a window in a chair that was overlooking a ghost town. I believe potential rescuers were just outside, but she wasn't able to alert them. She had a bandana gag. The movie was from the 70s.I know it's a rather vague description, but does that sound familiar to anyone?

Were you asleep during her run on VIP? She was gagged several times in that series.

Whoops! For some reason I thought VIP was older than Snapdragon. My bad. Apologies!

Re: Latin scenes
Or maybe bondage scenes really losing popularity in Latin TV production?

I could only answer for Mexico. On the one hand, fewer telenovelas are produced now. Azteca channel stopped producing telenovelas several years ago, and they used to be very good at scenes involving damsels.
On the other hand, Televisa has considerably reduced the number of episodes in its telenovelas, and that also reduces the possibility of kidnapping plots and scenes of that nature. They've also changed their narrative approach, focusing more on family dramas and female empowerment. Even when they make a version of a Turkish, Colombian, or Venezuelan telenovela, they end up removing scenes where the woman in question is supposed to be gagged. That doesn't mean they don't produce anything anymore, but it has decreased considerably to a couple of scenes a year, and they're not of the best quality.

Short answer is there are just far fewer telenovelas being produced now than there were 15 years ago.

There are a lot of reasons for this. The collapse of Venezuela's economy killed the industry there. From 2000-2010 they were producing 10-12 telenovelas a year, I don't think they've produced any this decade.

Reality/competition shows coupled with Turkish series dubbed into Spanish have killed original telenovela production for many other channels. The Mexican channel Azteca was still producing 5 telenovelas a year 15 years ago, the one they are producing this year is their first proper telenovela since 2020.

Perhaps only behind the collapse of Venezuelan productions is the shift this decade at American network Telemundo. In the mid-2000s, Telemundo was airing 4 new telenovelas a day - one in the afternoon and three in primetime - along with Decisiones late night. Nowadays, we're lucky to get one new telenovela a night from them, following a two-hour block of reality or celebrity competition shows and a Turkish import.

Televisa, the Mexican network still making telenovelas, seems to be in a down period recently for scenes, but my suspicion is they always have peaks and valleys for scenes. I mostly like chloro scenes, and I suspected they were producing fewer scenes than they used to, so I did a year-by-year breakdown of chloro scenes in Televisa telenovelas over the past 25 years and found the average was actually pretty consistent for both total scenes and scenes with the lead actress as the damsel. Now that I'm curious, I'll probably do a similar look at full treatment scenes in Televisa telenovelas.

In any case, Televisa's current and upcoming telenovela slate for the rest of this year and early next year is more promising than what they've produced so far this year with at least 3 remakes where the original had a full treatment: a remake of the Chilean telenovela Amanda starring Susana Gonzalez, a remake of La Duena/Soy tu duena starring Angelique Boyer, and a remake of the Turkish Ağlama Anne where the daughter gets kidnapped. Maybe even the upcoming Los Hilos del pasado starring Yadhira Carrillo and Barbara Lopez, if it follows the most recent remake of that particular story, Triunfo del amor, which had the mom and daughter kidnapped, played by Victoria Ruffo and Maite Perroni in that version.
