Not rubber, cork or wood. I had read that since the 16th century on galleys when they had to force their gait they put cork bites on the rowers to allow them to grind their teeth and not hear their groans. The same thing was then used for slaves during the voyages from Africa to America. So the ballgag is a very ancient gag. |
