Near the beginning the chorus describes how "They gagged her lovely mouth, with force, just like a horse's bit, to keep her speechless, to stifle any curse which she might cry against her family." Alas even if they had actually portrayed the scene on stage there were no actresses allowed in Ancient Greek theatre. The female roles were played by actors and they wore masks! :-) Modern adaptations, stage or screen, usually portray the actual sacrifice scene as a flashback. Like in the picture below. "Slavers of the Thames" was released in April 1915. I saw an excerpt from it on a quiz show many years ago in which several damsels were bound and gagged on a houseboat but for the life of me I can't recall if the gags were cleave or OTM. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0413278/ |

Title: Penthouse North (2013) Medium: Movie Actress: Michelle Monaghan Description: 23 min. in, Michelle Monaghan is attacked and has her hands bound to a bedpost with neckties, scene lasts for 2-3min. She then escapes, but in the 34' mark is recaptured and handgagged. 20 min. later she is seen in a closet with her hands tied behind her back. She stays there for a couple of minutes and then she is taken (still tied) to the living room. At the 1 hour mark she is bound to a table by Michael Keaton with duct tape (hands in front, feet together), gagged with a towel and waterboarded. --------------------------------------------- The overall movie seems very stiff and wooden, almost computer-animated. The best shot of her bondage is when she is pulled out of the closet at 38:35 -- and it is minimal. Overall, something of a wasted opportunity.
