Video Editing Software (moved from The Discussion Page)
Hey gang. I was looking through a lot of the old videos I had and noticing that they’re all pretty poor quality. Scenes like Stephanie Cameron being gagged in an old 90s episode of DoOL are so compressed and pixelated that they become nigh unwatchable.

For those edit-savvy members of the board, are there any ways to make a video sharper or clearer using video editing software like Premier? Are there any programs that will use AI to artificially make a video look clearer or de-pixelize it? I know there’s only so much you can do to a video, but is there even ANYTHING I can do?

Nope. Once that information is lost and degraded, it's gone. This ain't CSI, there ain't no magic enhance button

That's a heck of a cleave gag for the 1930s. Good find.

Quite the tease for a film poster

ur 1st question's answer: more or less yes, any decent video editing software can enhance or make a sharper version BUT there is a limit, if ur original source video is that bad, no matter how talented skill u possesses, you can only doing small enhance.

2nd: basically maybe yes, but to do that u must at the top level skill of this field. and those people are dedicated people who spent most of their entire life working in the field, but even then, there is also a limit. no one can upgrade crappy 140p source into 4k video right? or even if this still in possible realm, you can't do it now, maybe a 10/20/30 years later?!

3rd: rhetoric. ask urself. my suggestion is keep ur eyes, who knows, maybe someone can make better version of ur fav scene etc

Re: Man Hunt (1936) & Phantom of Chinatown
Thanks so much for posting Man Hunt, great little scene! Shame they cut away just as the gag was going in but nice closeup as it came off. Marguerite was such a beauty. And so great to see a perfect cleave a couple of years after the Hays Code's introduction which saw otm's mostly replace cleaves in films and film serials for many years. Do like big otm's too though so certainly not complaining :)
