This page is for posting links to online streaming video, Youtube and things like that. The rules are somewhat looser than Discussion. You can post and discuss mainstream and related amateur video. Do not post clips from commercial videos. It's usually not that hard to tell the difference.

I'd like to transfer my collection from DVD to my harddrive and edit them a bit to share with the board, but Im a novice when it comes to that. My computer meets all the hardware specs, and I have a copy of Adobe Premiere, but I dont know how to pull the videofiles off the DVD and convert them to a format to edit in Adobe. Any software that you can recommend thats easy for a novice to convert the DVD to a editable format would be greatly appreciated. |

First you'll need DVD Decrypter to get the VOBs cleanly off the disc: http://www.dvddecrypter.org.uk/ The rest comes down to a lot of options. Do you want to lose quality and go down the AVI/Xvid path like pretty much everyone? In that case, go ahead & re-encode your VOBs/MPEG-2s using a whole bunch of programs (there are too many to mention, but I use a combination of XviD4PSP and VirtualDub). That'll result in an easy-to-edit clip via keyframes, but quality will be sacrificed. Your call. The best option, however, is to NOT lose quality and edit your MPEG-2s losslessly using VideoReDo: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IMH9Y9I7 That's a whole different ballgame & can be tough (as I already pointed out in my Endure post yesterday), but it's worth it in the end because you end up with really awesome quality clips which are unmatched by all the usual AVI/WMV/MP4 encodes floating around the DiD communities. I applaud anyone who goes the lossless route, because: 1. It's way more of a challenge than just squashing out a shitty AVI (which anyone with half a brain & an index finger can do), and 2. Later generations of DiD fans might one day be thankful for having the highest quality material to jerk off to. :-P |

Convert per Sam's suggestion Link for DVDFab http://www.dvdfab.com/hd-decrypter.htm I use Virtual Dub with the mpeg addon to create caps that I browse through to find a descent image. On a side note, I will not be able to post the Chiller Drive In scene that I mentioned last week due to not having the access to high speed anymore. On caps from now on. |
