Record number: 414 Title: Head Above Water (1996) Medium: Movie Actress: Cameron Diaz Description: Remake of Hodet over vannet, the Norwegian original. The lovely but neurotic Nathalie (Diaz) has three separate scenes, all taking place in the last half hour. At 1hr 0mins, Nathalie is on a boat and gets knocked out by a punch from husband George. She is next shown 2mins later, lying unconscious on a couch; her hands are tied behind her back with black rope, feet tied together, and she is loosely OTM gagged with a cream-coloured floral print scarf. In several sequences over the next 5mins, she struggles and hops around the house to get a knife from a kitchen drawer. At one point George picks her up over his shoulder to carry her out of the house, but goes back inside and dumps her on the coach again. When he leaves, she uses the knife to cut her hands free and ungag herself onscreen, but after the scarf is pulled down, she spits out a lime which was used as mouth packing! The second scene begins at 1hr 11mins when Nathalie is recaptured by George and new friend Lance. They have her tied to a wooden chair with lots of rope all over her body (hands to armrests, noose around neck, feet together). George then whips out a pale blue cloth and tightly cleave gags her onscreen with it, prompting a helpless mmpphh. However, in the mother of all frustrations for DiD-fans, Lance suggests not to gag her. The cloth is removed from her mouth and again she is left alone. She remains tied to the chair for the next 4mins, during which she manages to tip it over in an energetic struggle and using a chisel to free herself offscreen. For a final time Nathalie winds up bound but not gagged, at 1hr 21mins, this time in mortal peril. George has strapped her to a rollerboard placed on a purpose-built wooden ramp, hands tied in front with rope, feet encased in cement within a metal tub, all on top of a platform above the water and shoreline. A pulley is rigged to send her plummeting into the sea below, but first she has to endure a drunken rant by George. In a stupor, he eventually falls off the platform instead, leaving Nathalie to figure out a way of escaping. Making seemingly clever use of a shotgun and a chainsaw to almost get free, she accidentally triggers the pulley mechanism which causes her to plunge into the sea. Cue a frantic struggle underwater where she reacts fast enough to snag the propeller of a police boat, which just about hauls her to safety at 1hr 27mins. |

Record number: 7949 Title: The Transporter (2002) Medium: Movie Actress: Qi Shu aka Shu Qi Description: About 17 minutes into the movie the transporter hears a lot of mmmphing from the trunk (aka boot) of his car. A few moments later he opens the trunk and Qi Shu's tape gagged face pokes out, the rest of her body in a bag. He puts a small hole in the tape so that Qi Shu can drink through a straw. When he takes out a knife for making the hole in the tape there is a lot of mmphhing. At about 19 minutes she is let out of the bag and untied so she can go to pee (she had pointed out that she would have to do so in his car otherwise). She reaches to take the tape off her mouth but the transporter says "do you need your mouth to pee?" so she leaves it on. She escapes, he follows and recaptures her, puts the tape back over her mouth, ties her wrists in front and carries her over his shoulder to the car at about 22 minutes. He then delivers her to the mansion of a Crime Lord and we see the large sports type bag being taken from the car. He is given another delivery to make, but it turns out to be a time bomb, presumably intended to ensure his silence. By luck he survives and returns to seek vengeance. At about 32 minutes Qi Shu is shown tied to an office type chair, on wheels, hands behind, ankles together with rope and tape gagged. Some struggling and she propels the chair to the door when her guard leaves to investigate the commotion. The transporter disposes of the guards but finds that the Crime Lord has left. He leaves in a stolen car and at 34 minutes we see that she is on the back seat of the car, still tied to the chair. In irritated response to her mmphhing he takes her out of the car and drives off leaving her still tied to the chair in the middle of the road. Good views of her tied feet and alarmed look on her face, as he relents and reverses back rapidly, when she thinks he is intending to run her over. Still on the chair, she is placed in the trunk for the remainder of the journey. At about 36 minutes they arrive at the transporter's house, he wheels her in still tied to the chair. He asks her a few questions and re-gags her twice when the answers are more than just what he wants to hear, nice mmpphing then. Decent length scenes. At about 37 minutes he cuts her free and she is seen rubbing her ankles. He says he needs sleep and tells her she can go; she decides to stay as she needs his help. Perhaps some may like the gesture the next morning when she has made breakfast for him and is talking he says "I like it quiet in the morning". She agrees and starts telling about her liking for quiet, then realises she should stop talking and makes a 'zipping-up' gesture with her finger across her mouth, at about 43 minutes (times for a 1 hour 45 minute broadcast with adverts). One good detail to add at the end would be that Lai (Shu Qi) keeps her mouth duct taped an extra 19-20 seconds after the guy unties her. The tape was still on her mouth while she was rubbing her ankles and she didn't take it off until the hero left her in the kitchen and started walking away which led her to finally rip the tape off and ask "Where are you going?" |

The Scottish immortal arrives to find her up on a scaffolding that holds up some neon letters. She is standing with her hands tied over her head with white rope. Seems to be a continuity error in the scene. He starts to cut the rope but gets interupted by the other immortal. She remains standing with arms still over her head as the fight ensures around her. As the bad immortal causes the scaffolding to fall over, she now appears with her hands untied. |

Record number: 228 Title: Just Cause (1995) Medium: Movie Actress: Kate Capshaw, Scarlett Johansson Description: Towards the end of the movie, Laurie (Capshaw) and her daughter Katie (Johansson) are forcibly led through a parking garage and into a car by the bad guy. Sometime later, as hero Paul (the venerable Sean Connery) approaches a shack located in the Everglades, he sneaks around the porch and looks over a low window sill. From that vantage we are shown a medium-range view of Laurie bound to a chair, hands tied somewhat loosely behind the chair with hemp rope, bare feet unbound (the dim lighting makes it difficult to see), and cleave gagged with a thin strip of white cloth tied tightly between her teeth and knotted in the middle. We then get a pan-up shot of her desperately looking around and struggling in the chair, her upper body all sweaty from the effort (and most likely the heat). Paul then bursts into the cabin, much to the squealing consternation of the bound captives. We now see that Katie is sitting across from Laurie at the other end of a table, gagged and bound to a chair in the same way. Laurie gag-talks to Paul, "Get this out of my mouth!", whilst Katie looks on in terror; her gag is even tighter, having been pulled extra-taught against the corners of her mouth and teeth clenched over the knot. She nonetheless stays quiet throughout the scene and we are never shown any of her bonds. After Laurie is ungagged, both she and Paul try to reassure Katie that everyone will be alright. But before he manages to untie Laurie, the bad guy suddenly barges in and grabs her at knifepoint. He and Paul remain in a stand-off, with the latter shielding a still-gagged Katie in his arms. Some heated dialogue ensues, with Laurie now being held at gunpoint. After about 2mins, both guys get into a fistfight. Neither damsels' release is shown, but they come to no harm. The scene is dimly lit throughout, with mainly close-ups of both damsels' gagged faces and only the one full-body view of Capshaw. Both are wearing knee-length dresses; Capshaw's is blue, Johansson's is white. |
