Record number: 3597 Title: Rocky Mountain Mystery, A (1935) aka Fighting Westerner, The Medium: Movie Actress: Ann Sheridan Description: Early Randolph Scott western. Randy plays a mining engineer who teams with a aging deputy sheriff to solve a series of murders. Rita Ballard (Sheridan, in one of her first roles) discovers the baddies have made a secret radium strike, is captured, bound and gagged. About 20 minutes from the end she's abducted, unfortunately all we see is the mysterious figure approaching. About ten minutes later the hero hears her screaming. Now we see a shot from about as far away as the director could manage of the baddie hurrying her out of a cave and into the nearby factory. She's gagged over the mouth, but screaming. Go figure. At this point she doesn't seem to be tied. By the time he gets to the factory her hands appear to be tied behind her, but we're so far away it's hard to tell. Inside the factory we still get a shot from the other side of the room. The hero shows up and jumps the bad guy, blocking our view in the process, as she gets shoved through a doorway. The fight goes on forever, during which we get one (1) quick shot of Ms. S lying against the wall, tied and gagged. |

Record number: 7110 Title: Frontiersmen, The (1938) Medium: Movie Actress: Emily Fitzroy Description: The local school is causing headaches for the Bar 20 ranch, so Hopalong Cassidy (William Boyd) and Windy (Gabby Hayes) ride over to investigate. The next scene shows a pack of boys brandishing torches, whooping and dancing in a circle. In the middle is the old schoolmarm, her hands bound behind her back. She's seated in the hollow of a huge tree stump with more ropes securing her inside. A lookout in a tree spies Hoppy and Windy riding up the valley so the boys, pull the old lady from the tree stump and drag her, still bound, into the school. After entering the school building the cowpokes are treated to some lengthy of choral singing. After a several songs, there's a commotion in a closet and when Hoppy opens a door the old teacher staggers out, cloth gag around her neck and ropes hanging from her wrists and shoulders. She announces her resignation, but not before demanding to tan the hide of the ringleader. Action starts about 15 minutes into the film. |

Record number: 2401 Title: Adventures of Superman (1952) Medium: TV Series Actress: Phyllis Coates Description: Episode: "The Mystery of the Broken Statues" (1.4) The bad guys grab Lois Lane (Coates) because she found the key to a post office box hidden in a cheap statuette. It turns out that the PO box has a parcel containing a stolen gem in it. As currently seen on TV their are three short scenes: 1) Lois led, bound and detective gagged, down some steps to a waiting car; 2) Lois sitting in the car b&g'd and 3) Lois being led from the car into a small airplane to be transported to the crooks' mountain hideout, still b&g'd. According to some sources, two minutes were edited out of the original episode (the better to cram more ads into a half hour show) which eliminated a scene where a policeman assists the bad guys to jump start the car, while Lois lies b&g'd on the floor of the back seat. |

| TV Land is showing BATMAN: "The Bookworm Turns" (part 1) on Monday May 20 at 7:00 pm eastern/pacific time. In this episode, the female member of Bookworm's gang (FRANCINE YORK) is bound and gagged pretending to be a damsel-in-distress. Batman puts her to sleep with Bat-gas (while she is still bound and gagged) to take her to the Batcave. This is a classic scene! There are great close-ups. There is a close-up of her gagged face as she is put to sleep.
In the recap of part 1 at the beginning of part 2 ("While Gotham City Burns" shown at 7:30 pm), there is a freeze frame close-up of her gagged face. This episode is shown again early Tuesday morning at 4:00 am eastern/pacific time on TV Land (part 1 at 4:00 am, part 2 at 4:30 am.) |

Case, Fabiana Udenio Description: About 11 minutes in, Case's character gets her hands cuffed behind her back and is thrown to the ground by her Paraguayan-diplomat boyfriend, who's showing his sadistic streak all of a sudden during a night photo shoot. She kicks him and writhes along the ground to escape, but he catches up with her soon after she manages to get to her feet and run off. Her murder isn't shown, but is implied by her screams coming from over a hill. About an hour later, Udenio, as a paramour of the diplomat who's thrown in with the murdered girl's revenge-seeking father, lies sleeping on a mattress in her Paraguay home when the baddie comes calling. It's implied he ties her hands behind her, but only one of her wrists is shown roped for about a second. He rips open her top, plants a boot onto her abdomen and shoves her around a bit before getting out his camera as he did with Case. He's about to do her in with a scalpel when the father and a buddy come to the rescue. |
