Actually Filter,
you probably up on particular question want answered. Ted Roger's boys are on about the new Rogers box that records for you. Specific: "3 Games on same time, you can watch one and record the other two" Here my question: If I a friend in the United States whom wants to watch one of the games, can I run it on VHS, or DVD too? I just leave out the scenes part, and good thing have Kevin W around because it a legitimate question. ;) Getting the "Pretty sure you could" What "Pretty sure"? Sounds more like "I don't know" huh? I like the sound of taping 2 at same time, but not if can't get the stuff off the new Rogers box for clipping |

Google around, but the eff link has a pretty good explanation of the subject. You'll see a lot of phrases like "robust" and "protect the original stream" which basically means "sorry, you can't do what you want with the thing you bought because we are crippling it" Check the tivo screenshots too. Everything is in place - just because they haven't flipped that switch doesn't mean they won't in the future. Doesn't affect the canucks, but the folks in the USA. Not sure if you are old enough to remember them suing to keep the VCR off the market, but these are the same motherf***ers doing the same thing. |

Not a big deal unless you need to record 3 shows that air at the exact same time. Pretty standard, the series 3 tivo has a similar restriction. Pretty sure the limit has to do with CPU speed and disk i/o. > Here my question: > If I a friend in the United States whom wants to watch > one of the games, can I run it on VHS, or DVD too? > I just leave out the scenes part, > I like the sound of taping 2 at same time, > but not if can't get the stuff off the new Rogers box for clipping You can't get the stuff off the box because the whores at rogers have chosen to have the pvr encrypt all the recordings on the hard drive, so even if you pull the drive out, you won't be able to access the recordings on it on your computer. Furthermore, the files are encrypted to your account, so if you cancel your service, you won't be able to access the recordings. Nice, eh? (you expected something else from rogers?) The only way to get the stuff off the pvr is to hit "play" on the pvr and use a tv tuner on your pc to record from the svideo jack. So you'll basically have to record it twice. Which is stupid. You lose quality, you won't get the full hi-def resolution (instead you'll get a shitty downsized, compressed version) and it takes forever to copy the stuff. Also, they don't let you record "video on demand" programs - basically that broadcast flag bullshit again. It's like a VCR, except it only works when rogers decides it can. So if you want to put it on a DVD, you'll have to record it on the PVR, record it onto your computer and then, finally, burn it to a DVD (skip the computer part if you want to do vhs), but the point is that the video is switching formats a lot of times and each time is switches formats, you lose quality. You're also paying $11.00 a month to rent the tuner, and $1.99 a month for "service" (i.e. extortion money for keeping your PVR working and recordings accessible). You also can't edit commercials out with the unit, nor cap any scenes on it. You'll have to toss the stuff on the computer to be able to do anything with it. It would be easier to just record the thing on your computer in the first place. For the folks in the states - and this might work better if you're just recording hockey games, but you also won't be able to edit out commercials, etc, with this - get a Tivo with a built in dvd burner. Problem is that they charge ~$17 a month for "service" plus you have1 to buy the damn thing - you're looking at ~$400 US to buy one with the first year of service. Beaucoup money and you risk getting the problems I mentioned in the post above. One thing - their interface is really nice and is easy to use. I've seen the rogers interface and it is... well... shitty. Of course, not available in canada, and even if you get a grey market directv unit, the directv tivos are crap (and no canadian channels). If you don't care about high def (and don't pay for it) you can put a computer together that can record multiple channels at the same time. A PVR 150 is an awesome card that has one tuner, or you can get a PVR 500 that has 2 tuners on 1 card. There are a bunch of windows programs that support multple tuners out there. Microsoft XP Media center edition is one and you should be able to find a copy of that pretty much anywhere. Or buy it if you have $300 burning a hole in your wallet. Showshifter is one I tried but don't expect any tech support and I'm pretty sure the company that owns them is run by crooks. It was pretty cheap too, something like $30 and had a lot of features. BeyondTV is another, I've never played with it. Or, go for the free solution and try setting up myth tv. Just a word of advice / warning, Try installing it with Knoppmyth. If it doesn't work, drop it and for the love of god, don't try to install it manually. It is a bitch. Link to it here. http://mysettopbox.tv/ With mythtv, you can do other stuff like have a photo gallery, play games, etc. |

I'm not surprised at all (and good, although the original developers were paid in shares, which is somewhat unfortunate, they are the ones that got scammed/screwed) Hopefully someone with ethics will acquire the source code and do something with it. |

But didn't own a VHS machine till the boys in the United States first asked me to tape for them. So wouldn't have cared. Big treat being in Edmonton, or Toronto was going to the theatre Annoying when think of all the scenes could have had if only known that Brian R was going to start this up huh? |

Hey Jos,
What clips you have that contain "Onscreen Tape Gagging on Asian Damsels?" Oh.. I have one particular clip that I've been looking for all over the place. In the 1st season of the Hong Kong Drama, Armed Reaction. I think during the last episode, the 2 main female characters were drunk and they were captured by a bad guy who then has them tied up and gagged with black tape. Do you have the clip or DOES anyone has the clip? PLEASE REPLY!!! |

Figure *liars* abit acid though, you'll recall from the 80's on, you'd go and rent the VHS machine and the videos for the night correct? Then I had the big US store Blockbuster open right near me and Rogers store copied it right down to selling treats. Blockbuster store didn't carry Adult movies because they "United States and family friendly" or whatevertheheck So Rogers store doesn't. Blockbuster store didn't rent VHS machines and then got rid of all their VHS tapes because "everyone down there has the machines". Again Rogers copied them Also, I one of the many burned with their "Time-shift Package" where what? Kokanee, Molsens & Labatts? supposedly got the games blacked-out, so we had to upgrade to the United States Centre-Ice package one. So it appearing to me they copying the United States in an unorganised way, and now they have a new machine to replace one they figured no use for huh? Say Kevin W down in Wisconsin, US could get a machine that burns 5 shows to DVD, are they going to dump their current one and adopt that too? Better to just wait for what the boys down there say a good machine before dealing with Rogers? This be quite humourous if I didn't want to pass these scenes around to the boys here huh? |

I heard she was tapegagged last year for the rock the vote campaign. I'm not sure if that's true or not. Does anybody have a clip they can share from it? I'd really love to see it. I think she'd be so hot tapegagged. My e-mail is illegaldarkness9889@yahoo.com. Can somebody lemme know if they have it? Thank you. |

A tivo is great, but you can't get listings for it in canada (and I'm pretty sure they block any canadian area codes with ANI or DNIS to prevent your tivo from calling home). Without those listings, it isn't terribly useful. Tivo "might" be coming to canada, but they have been "coming" to canada for a couple years now. I'm guessing it will be a cold day in hell before Rogers puts out a PVR with a DVD burner inside, and even though the PVR they have right now has a SATA port and usb / firewire ports, those ports are de-activated in the firmware. Not saying their pvr isn't pretty cool - you can do all sorts of nifty stuff like pause and replay tv, but you can do the same stuff on a pc. -> This be quite humourous if I didn't want to pass these scenes around to the boys here huh? Yeah.. Thing is, if you're going to do didcaps, you need a PC. |
