Freakshow tape for Togolane
If you are in North America I should mention that it is a VHS cassette in PAL format, this may be a problem - although I think many recent recorders are dual format.

If you would like to register yourself as a contributor to the UK DiD discussion group at

you could send a private message to user Joe if you would not want to publicly post your email address.
Alternatively I could arrange to have it put for sale on eBay if you could make an offer that would make the admin costs worthwhile.

A couple of things.
First off, MPEG2 isn't "highly compressed", there just aren't all that many good editing apps for it. MPEG2 was a cool format, but that was 10-15 years ago and is a bit akward to work with at high res (6 gigs for 40 minutes of 1080i content is just stupid, but that's what it takes).

Secondly, MPEG4 (divx, xvid, whatever) will look just as good as mpeg2 if you compress it right. Which means to use 2 pass encoding at a fairly high bitrate and no resizing. Even though I sometimes have ac3 audio in my clips (5.1 sound), it isn't necessary and it takes up a lot of space.

Third, if someone would be interested in throwing together a searchable list of who has what, I'd be intererested in it as well.
The biggest hurdle right now is a consistent naming scheme for caps. There really isn't one right now, and some of you folks will put the actress name first, some will put the name of the episode first and some will use the TV show name first.

If you folks get your filenames all in the same format, you won't have to enter the names of your caps manually (which would be a pain in the ass). Granted, it will be a pain in the ass to rename your existing caps, but the sooner we start, the easier it will become.
I use something like the following.
Dark Angel - 1x02 - Heat - Christine Chatelain - BPR-07233.avi
or in the case of a movie
Black Mask - Karen Mok, Francoise Yip - BPR-02045.avi

I sometimes throw in flags indicating what is in the scene.
X-Files - 1x15 - Lazarus - 2 - Gillian Anderson - BPR-11881 [hc] [wf].avi decodes as "handcuffed, wrists in front"
This also makes it possible for people to search for scenes on P2P, although if you throw up a file like that, you'll probably get a nasty letter from the MPAA, so that idea is a bit less than useful. If we wanted to, we could include metadata like this in the .avi's text info area (like exif info in a jpeg), but that is getting a bit ahead of ourselves.

And finally, it is quite easy to get higher than DVD resolution copies of TV shows without waiting for the box set. A little different for movies, but there are a lot less of those. Even if you do a 2:1 reduction on 720p video, you still have better resolution than DVD.

Anyways, if you folks are interested, send me an email.
