This episode - along with the one with Ms. Coates tied back to back with another actress (Ann Doran?) - at the "Wishing Well, or something like that" (a quote from that episode) motel were my absolute favorites. IMHO, the Phyllis Coates scenes were far more seriously good scenes than the Noel Neill ones. Too bad there wasn't more scenes with Ms. Coates! |

Would love to see Alana de la Garza get the treatment on "Forever" (ABC). Not sure of its chances of survival...the pilot was actually quite decent in spite of the fact that the show is terribly cliched (they're ripping off Sherlock Holmes and every immortality story ever written). Still, speaking of cliches, Ms. de la Garza's role is one that totally lends itself to DiD scenarios (hero saved her life twice on the pilot, which seems a good indicator of her talent for getting in over her head). Her character reminds me of Lisa Marcos' role on "The Listener" (actually, the whole show is a bit like "Listener"...as I said, it's cliched) and Ms. Marcos ultimately gave us one helluva scene. Fingers crossed that the same thing will happen to Ms. de la Garza. |

Friday September 12 14:54:52 2014 El senor de los Cielos 2 |
Last night's episode of "El senor de los Cielos" had the bit from the promo with Carmen Aub tied. Not much more than was in the promo, unfortunately, just a couple shots of her hands tied in front and legs bound at ankles, and a sack over her head as she is placed on a road. Quickly untied. No gag. |

I'm looking forward to the Hallmark Movie Channel re-branding into Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. They are going to be producing more cozy-style mystery movies which should be a good opportunity to see some c and d list actresses in some peril. It will be nice to have another channel other than Lifetime making TV movies. They've already announced several series of 3 movies each: "Garage Sale Mysteries" starring Lori Loughlin as a sleuthing bargain hunter, "Aurora Teagarden" starring Candace Cameron Bure as a sleuthing librarian, the Hannah Swensen mysteries about a sleuthing baker that doesn't have a lead actress announced yet; and another series that stars Dylan Neal, but hopefully he'll be given a wife or daughter to get into peril. On October 12 they are airing a movie called "Along Came a Nanny" in which Sarah Lancaster gets kidnapped toward the end and on October 19 they are showing "Wedding Planner Mystery" which stars Erica Durance, but it is Chelan Simmons who gets kidnapped in that one. |

The first season was great and more slanted to adults, but then DC and the network decided they wanted to play to kids, not scare them. I think Ms. Neill could have done the more dramatic stuff, but it was just a different show then. Anyway, Phyllis Coates was great, and even though I have the first season on dvd, I always watch her scenes when they're broadcast. And like you, I wish there were more of them. |

I'm holding out hope we get some FT action from adorable Nicole Beharie on Sleepy Hollow. Scenes with attractive black actresses are far too rare. Still disappointed the detective show with gorgeous biracial actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Undercovers) was canceled so quickly a couple of seasons ago. Sounds like Dextor's definitely onto something with the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries deal. Perfect scenario for known actresses to get the treatment in scenes that are far more lighthearted (for lack of a better term) than the ever-violent Criminal Minds/CSI shows. You never know, but I'm not too high on the prospects for the Mysteries of Laura show with Debra Messing. Looks more like a cheesy working mother comedy-drama. But I hope to be proven wrong. Stalker looks like a good source of scenes, albeit ones that undoubtedly will lean toward the Criminal Minds/CSI theme. And I doubt they'd go the route of putting Maggie Q in a DiD situation for a while, at least. (So let's hope for good ratings.) Again, I hope I'm wrong about that, because I'd love a scene with her. |

I'm thinking Gotham and The Flash will have a few scenes here and there. |

Friday September 12 20:16:42 2014 Imagining "O" |
I just read a review of an immersive show playing in Montclair, NJ (alas, only one show left, 9/13, for anyone in that area). The show is about a variety of literary women, including Ophelia, Pauline Reage's "O" and a few others. It examines the theme of female submission and subservience. I am not sure if there is any actual bondage -- the review implied there was little if any -- but nudity and sheer, flowing gowns were common. Is anyone familiar with the show and confirm or refute the kink element? |
