Tuesday March 03 13:24:54 2015 Re: the Following and "wrecked" scenes |
Does the violence wreck the bondage for me? Well, violence doesn't "wreck" scenes for me per se. Some of my all-time favorites are exceedingly violent, such as A Clockwork Orange's "Singing in the Rain" scene, or Heather Matarazzo's Lady Bathory treatment in Hostel Part II. Cruel, violent, and yet artfully done. Those I like. But something about The Following (and its CBS cousin Criminal Minds) is, well, reprehensible. The victims are usually only mere plot devices, or worse, props. There's no soul to it. There's zero emotion in those shows beyond the cheap thrill of exploitation. Compare and contrast any scene from CM (with the possible exceptions of when a team member is involved) or The Following with the scenes from The Fall. Even though the victims in the latter show usually met bad ends - or suffered greatly before a rescue - The Fall resonated with me. I was involved. TF or CM scenes do not resonate. I don't care about the victims or their plight, and the bondage is thus damn near meaningless. So, no, you're not alone. |

I would disagree with you on just about all accounts about The Following's bondage scenes. Most of the good scenes in the show have happened to main characters and was a major involvement in the plot. Max Hardy's character development happened because she was kidnapped and had to shown her skills to rescue herself, all while showing off the true villian of season 2 and her intentions for the main character. Season 1 had probably the scene of the year that no one watched because it was "dark and disturbing". In the end the hostage lived, you get 4 episodes of great bondage that ultimately showed the police where Joe Carroll was hiding. Granted there is also the mindless "sacrifice" murder scenes in the show, but as for souless scenes that had no meaning, the Following has none of that |

Steve Rogers wrote: > What's was last nights episode number? Episode 35. Last night's episode ended with her muffled talking into her gag and the kidnapper asking her if she wanted him to remove her gag. She nods yes and he says, "So you can scream like a crazy woman and alert all the neighbors." Confusing story. Kidnapper wants to sell her back to a drug lord, but there are two guys running around with the drug lord's face - the actual drug lord and the good guy who the drug lord had surgically altered to be his double. |

tie wrote: > wife gets tied to bed wirh silk scarfs > Does the violence in this show wreck the bondage for > anyone else like it does for me? Naw, if it's good bondage I am fine with it all....the "classic-by-anyone's-standards" scene of Thordis Brandt in "Dragnet '69" had the young lady being videotaped getting strangled by the baddie....and it's STIll a great scene. |

Bob wrote: <<So, no, you're not alone. >> Well, not necessarily, Tie was asking if the VIOLENCE ruined the scene (which, for me, not at all). Bob, you said that shows like CM and Following ruined scenes but for different reasons other than the violence (you even said the violence aspect didn't bother you), the lack of "soul" and character involvement and that there. So, you guys both don't like certain "otherwise great bondage scenes", but for two different reasons. Just splitting hairs here! LOL |

Tuesday March 03 19:50:25 2015 The Brain That Wouldn't Die |
This old favorite will be on TCM tomorrow morning at 8:45 am Eastern. I love the new description of it in the Tivo guide: "A surgeon tapes his fiancee's mouth shut and prepares to put her head on a model's body." |
Tuesday March 03 20:48:32 2015 Criminal Minds |
tomorrow at 9pm EST looks like the team is in a prison and a prison riot breaks out. in the promo you see Jennifer Love-Hewitt handcuffed (assuming its handcuffs) behind her back. ' no idea if AJ Cook is included in the episode. sometimes she isnt with the team so she might not be there. major putz fest likely, most of the team is male. |
