| I have a sneaking suspicion that the author of this note has never actually seen the movie but is merely paraphrasing the description in the old "Bound for Hollywood" publication. Because I HAVE seen it, and this scene is more impressive than that. Not only are her arms and shoulders pulled way up, but she is burnt with a red-hot poker and screams bloodcurdlingly. When they let her down, they have to let her down a long way before she crumples up on the floor. If her feet aren't off the floor, she is certainly up on her toes.
May I suggest: Arlene Dahl is strung up AOH very tightly, with a lot of stress visible on her arms and shoulders. After her torturers have burnt her with a hot poker and she has screamed appropriately, they slowly let her down, which gives the impression that she has been up on her toes at the very least. Later we get several glimpses of her sitting against a wall with her hands tied behind her. |
