Players, codecs, etc
This issue seems to pop up every month or so, so I'll throw my $.02 in.

I've found that VLC will play almost everything, the GOM player catches virtually everything that VLC won't, and neither requires - usually - an extra codec pack to do so.

You may need to install RealAlternative to get Real files to play, but you may not - YMMV. Other than that, the only issues I've run into are with some obscure .mov files I downloaded in my old USENET days, back when Clinton was President. No idea what codecs those were encoded with.

Both apps have excellent interfaces and neat features like video snapshots - a great way to preserve those key moments of your DiD experience. GOM also has the added benefit of being able to play broken and/or incomplete files. This is great when that .avi dl stalls at 99.2% or you can only get the first 4 of 5 parts of a split file.

VLC is free and open source; GOM is begware that only asks once. Either beats DivX or WMP. Check them out.

^ I endorse the above post.

Seriously though, it's true about VLC. It plays pretty much anything, and it's great for anyone who doesn't feel like messing around with codecs. Me, I've never liked it a whole lot because I'm too used to MPC/K-Lite, and for some reason VLC never wants to pause videos instantaneously. I press the space bar and it takes a good 1sec or more to stop playing. Same for resuming. I've always wondered why don't they don't fix that.

Keep in mind most of these HQ downloads play better (or at all) in a 64 bit system (OS). For those on older operating systems/computers...

Finally something PC-related which I have no idea about, lol. Literally not a single clue. I've HEARD about them, but beyond the name & stuff about larger amounts of RAM, I don't have the faintest idea what a 64bit system is. Is it something that the everyday 32bit PC user will ever have to worry about?

Hollyoaks - episode 2011.10.25 (featuring Jennifer Metcalfe)
In any case, here's Tuesday's episode of Hollyoaks, and it's one of those magic cleave gags which keeps getting thinner & thinner, yet somehow manages to mute a damsel completely:

No problem. (Well, not for me, anyway.) Thanks for understanding.
