"Talk like you'se just born," says a friend of Melissa Vail (Ames), a cute teenage brunette, and truer words were never spoken: think Dorothy from Wizard of Oz. Clearly Melissa needs to be inducted into the cold, cruel world -- which happens about one minute into the episode, courtesy of those cold, cruel Injuns. She's convincingly handgagged while milking a cow and dragged into a clearing, where her abductor stuffs a cloth in her mouth, ties her hands in front with lightning efficiency, tosses her onto his horse, and off they go. The Native American scallywags leave a spear behind as a message, which one of the good guys quickly snaps over his knee in frustration. We know how he feels, because that's the sum total of interesting scenes: Ames is unbound in all scenes following the opening credits. |
