Re: Days of our lives
Really happy the Father(Mother?)of all modern US soaps seems to have gotten its DiD Mojo back these last few months. New blondie gettin the upcoming scene is a cutie. Wonder what's goin on? They've run out of ideas or the writers' been watchin too much Lifetime? Whatever the reason hope it continues onwards :).

Isabel Durant? Nice. Another hot Aussie blonde export from the Hot Aussie Blonde Factory. They sure do churn em out Down Under. And they're all happy to be Damsels too ;).

Re: Cruella
She's a Dollbaby end of story. If I was Mark Strong I would've kept her restrained on the couch. Then it would've become an entirely different film. Reminiscent of a certain classic with Terence Stamp and Samantha Eggar ;).

At The Villa Rose
Been seeing people discuss this classic novel on other sites recently. Written in 1910 it's considered to have helped form the future tastes of John Alexander Scott Coutts aka "John Willie" - the Godfather of modern western bondage, tapegags et cetera. I read the appropriate bondage-related book passages which, for the period, are amazing in their strict details. Apparently three films were made of this novel between 1920 and 1948; all of which are impossible to find. Seeing the Database entry here for the 1920 film I tracked down the documentary series mentioned there which has footage of the actress Manora Thew. Very attractive brunette with a wide and tight otm. See-through cloth and you can clearly see mouth-packing. Mouth-packing in 1920! A faithful adaptation of the novel's effective gag. Wish the whole film was available. Time for a remake, surely? Anyhow, read the appropriate novel section online it's very racy, bondage-wise :).

You can find a pdf of the novel at various online sites. Incredible bondage scene it must be said. The author knew his kink! Could totally be made into a new film too. Be way more interesting than another remake of Murder On The Orient Express ha. The detective is every bit as charismatic as Holmes or Poirot. Buy the rights someone!

On IMDB I found all these adaptations for film or television

For research I relied on the author A.E.W. Mason

No one would need to buy the rights. The novel is in the public domain.

Re: At The Villa Rose

Thanks very much for this info. Somehow, despite a lifetime of seeking out pulpy damsel-in-distress stuff, I had never heard of this novel before.

I guess you really do learn something new every day. So much weird old stuff out there waiting to be re-discovered.

Re: Villa Rose cover
Very interesting cover. Tape Gag over a cleave. In 1932 no less. The various film and tv versions(that we've seen pictures of)all seem to have effective, silencing gags, following the novel's lead. A new film version would undoubtedly follow suit. A detective not seen in screen action for 80 years or so would be fresh for audiences today too. HBO or Netflix would probably do a nice edgy version. The casting of Celia would be crucially important of course ;).

You're welcome. I saw the 1910 novel being discussed by the Veritable Jon Woods(Legendary Rigger of American Damsels fame)on his Twitter. Anything he recommends must be top-notch. He said he'd like to do a homage to it one day himself. Absolutely no reason why Hollywood or a Euro/UK production team couldn't remake it either. It's a classic tale from the esteemed author of the "Four Feathers". So much more palatable for audiences than, say, Let's Go Play At The Adams', which is too problematic to be filmed - though I sure would love to see a film of that one day too..
