I don't recall the initial conversation concerning the stuff gags, but its not particularly important. If you want to differentiate them from stuffing behind a real gag, we can give them their own tag. As much as I'd like impractical or useless, we're probably better off going with gagtype_wadding. Its descriptive, and distinctive enough to set it apart from gagtype_stuffing.

I don't see any reason for a requirement that there be a separate scene in a show which has a faux-gag. Thoroughly Modern Millie has all of those girls in the crates, but the Ally McBeal scene with Calista getting a bunch of pencils is a standalone, as is the Bunk'd scene with Peyton List getting a ping-pong ball popped into her mouth. The 30 Rock scene with Tina Fey and the pencil isn't in the database, but if I ever find out which episode it's from I might put it in. Something I mentioned back when somebody on discussion bitched about the picture of Peyton List with the ping-pong ball still applies - if somebody took the time to put it in the database, somebody else will be interested.

I've been reading through Raffish's post also, and there's a lot of good ideas in there. My mind keeps coming back to thinking that its still too long, and we can simplify it somewhat while keeping all of the options.

Never heard of it.

Probably:
S1, Ep14
15 Feb. 2007
The C Word

The image was created 2/17/2007 and the original post on
2/22/2007 referred to "last week's episode".

The thing is, I've actually wanted to search on most of those elements at one point or another when I'm trying to place a scene. I have a relatively crappy memory for titles, but knowing three or four details about the bondage/setting is usually enough to narrow down the results *if* they're searchable enough.

Is my list really too long? As I see it, nobody has to use any of these tags, but it's nice to have them there if you want them, and to have at least the most common suffixes for each prefix suggested (and clearly distinguishable from each other) so that you can just choose from the buffet 95% of the time.

There are a few problems with the tags that ended up in that FBT sheet, but the biggest one is that the actual list is at least 50% longer than the edited one I posted, and a lot of that is due to redundancy: FBT editors didn't have any kind of formal list but wanted to indicate something, so they came up with their own different terms for the same element. IMO, it would be great to avoid that in the new scheme by having the most common choices for each prefix clearly laid out. But that does require a list of a certain length.

This entry is not a duplicate, but it does mention that it is a flashback to a different episode.

I don't disagree that everything on your list could be a valid search item, and it would be very useful to have detailed tags for every entry. My concern is that it's hard enough to get people to take the time to contribute and write up DB entries, and that presented with a full page of possible options for a tag might just skip the whole thing.

To that end, I don't want to eliminate anything on your list, but I would like to simplify it. For instance, you have separate tags for tiedto_, position_ and restraint_. We might be able to combine them into something like "bondtype_chair_HBB_rope". I haven't quite thought it all out yet, but if we reduce the options we can slim down the list on the DB add page and not scare people away at first glance.

Please, anything but that. :) Remember that these tags need to be individually searchable strings. If you want to look for a rope tie-up, you don't want to have to search for bondtype_chair_HBB_rope and bondtype_bed_spreadeagle_rope and all 100+ combinations in between. That's not simplifying anything, but rather making it vastly more complicated.

One tag per scene element needs to be the rule, though there's plenty of wiggle room when it comes to how many elements (prefixes) to support and how granular we want to get (suffixes) within those elements.

My thought is that we should explicitly list enough suffixes to handle let's say 90-95% of the scenes, and let the freeform safety valve take care of the rest. So for instance, we should list position_HBB because it comes up in every other scene, but we could leave out position_hogtie and position_strappado because they almost never do, and just trust people to come up with those on their own as needed.

Correct. So we can get some better quality images to post:

If this doesn't deserve a DB entry, I don't know what does.

No matter how many suffixes we define, more are always going to pop up, so I'm not going to worry too much about them for now. I'm more concerned about the number of prefixes we're using, and how to reduce that number. Going back to the three that I mentioned, the tiedto_, position_ and restraint_, we can collapse all of them into a single tag, i.e., bonddesc_, and let users put in as many suffixes as they deem necessary to define the scene. This will get rid of your problem with my compound tags, and let me relax a bit about how many prefixes we're trying to keep track of.

When you put it like that, no objection from me. After all, I put in the Christy Hemme "scene" from TNA, and it's no different to the one from Bunk'd. More the merrier.

Sure, that works for me.

Now you can retire that old cropped photo that keeps getting posted, and go with my all new super-clear HD caps. Or you can retire the pencil and go with the Katy Perry napkin pics I'm going to put over on Discussion in a minute.
