I'm confused.

I've saved some videos from youtube just with page reported on Discussions Forums.
My browser is Mozilla Firefox.
You must copy the clip's Url, than paste it on the up field (the first of page) and click the command button DOWNLOAD, after to have changed the combo box in YOUTUBE (not, i think, ANY SITE).
After you must click the command button DOWNLOAD LINK (a few low).
On your pc, now, you find a file named GETVIDEO, file with a"stranger" icon: you remane the file writing also the extension .FLV.
Naturally for run the video you must to have a FLV PLAYER.

Sorry for my bad english, i hope that you 've understand.

Here's the deal, Jacques:

1. Copy the youtube clip's URL, then go to:
http://javimoya.com/blog/youtube_en.php

2. Paste the URL into the blank white entry box labeled: "Download direct from...etc."

3. Left-Click the "Download" button to the right of the white entry box

4. A box below will appear labeled "Download" with a button labeled "Download Link" inside it. LEFT-CLICK on that button. Ignore the other instructions.

5. At that point, Windows brings up the standard "Open" or "Save" option. I assume you plan to click "Save," then select the folder you wish to store the clip in, and the default name "Get Video." You can leave the default and go forward, or rename the file first.

6. When the save process is done, look in the appropriate folder. You will see the clip residing under the name you chose. NOW: add ".flv" to the filename, and that will allow you to play the file. If you don't yet have the player, go back to:
http://javimoya.com/blog/youtube_en.php
and get the player they offer.

Try that and let us know if you're still encountering problems.

Alert:

Some clips do not allow themselves to be copied. In such cases, when you click on the button "Download Link" in step 4, you will get an "Error" message. Go for a different clip.

Some clips will play in youtube, and look like they are being saved just fine, but when you open them they terminate prematurely or have a distorted soundtrack. There's nothing you can do about this either. At least, not that I've found. Just move on to something else.

Good luck,

Is it just ME that's stupid and doesn't get this Youtube nonsense?
99% of the stuff on utube is straight off of the mainstream sites - why don't you download directly from them ... duh?
To make matters worse - this youutube crap is LESS than HALF the resolution of the original material from Anubis, Kerhop, Majorjohns, PantyDid - you name it
Are you a glutton for punishment?
YouTube is garbage - get used to it.

Not sure whether this was addressed directly to me, but if so, then here's my response:

1. I have no argument with your discomfort about the clip quality.
2. The "mainstream sites" (as you call them) do not allow free access to archived clips. So if an interested collector doesn't get a clip when it's featured, then one must find it where one can. I'm certainly not complaining that Raffish (just to name one example) asks for compensation in exchange for access to his archives. He does more than enough pro bono for interested collectors. But since, like many in our community, do not have the cash flow to make such a contribution, we can only get what's up for free, when it's up.
3. About youtube per se: I don't understand your vehemence. Consider the new member of the DiD collecting community, who hasn't been tracking Major John, Raffish, JayL, etc until just recently. Wouldn't you want this collector to be able to access as many clips as possible? Wouldn't you prefer to leave it to the individual's personal choice as to whether he (or she) is willing to sacrifice quality for free access? Isn't it better to extend a welcome to new members of the community and allow them to begin building a collection, even though it would be preferable to make that collection as high quality as possible?

I've got thousands of clips, slowly assembled by assiduous monitoring of websites and through occasional trades with friendly parties. Some are really pristine. Some are awful in terms of quality (but unique in my collection). While I claim considerable expertise on the domain of audio technology, I'm no more than pedestrian when it comes to video. I don't do videocapturing, don't do much video editing, and can't afford to spend the funds required to purchase everybody's DVDs. I do the best I can. Why does that bother you?

I'd like to gently suggest that you get off your soapbox and give us all the benefit of the doubt. We're doing the best we can.
