| Description: In this fun creaky horror movie (it's got a haunted house, secret passages, howling storms and a gorilla in the basement laboratory which is used for diabolical experiments) our heiress heroine is menaced by someone who wants to do away with her and blame it on the monkey. By the time she tells her fiancee for the fifth time, "Oh, Ted, please take me away from here!" you want to gag her yourself. Action starts around the 55:50 mark and continues for about three minutes. Vera, wearing a thick bathrobe, pyjamas, silver high heeled shoes and a tight white detective gag with her hands tied behind her is carried to the basement by the villain who then ties her to a wooden support beam near the monkey's cage. We get several nice close-ups of Vera's gagged face (with her gag slightly changing in some shots) as she reacts to the villain whipping an ape into a frenzy, the better to tear the bound heroine to pieces. Fortunately, the bad guy gets his comeuppance, the diminutive heroine passes out and is untied onscreen. |
