[13101] A Escrava Isaura aka La Esclava Isaura
Hello Brian
I am updating the description and adding a second actress that gets the treatment of the 2004 version. Please note that entry 12815 describes a similar scene assigning it to the 1976 actress (Luceila Santos). Because of the record number and its description I am certain this belongs to the 2004 version. Record 13101 belongs to the 2004 version but it is incomplete. I have compiled the description of both of these records in more detailed and submit it for your consideration.
Lastly record record 2818 is the true scene description from the 1976 version

Title: A Escrava Isaura aka La Esclava Isaura
Medium: Soap Opera
Actress: Bianca Rinaldi, Patricia Franca

This very successful Brazilian soap opera delivers several scenes involving the bella Bianca Rinaldi playing the role of Isaura. This is a 2004 remake of the original soap opera dated 1976 with Lucelia Santos (see Brian’s record 2818)

Chapter 46 and 47:
Leoncio, her master, has a crunch on Isaura but she would not yield to his advances and promises to marry her and make her the “señora” of his hacienda. He decides to punish her to convince her to accept his offer. Isaura’s ankles are placed in a wood log serving as a pillory. Her wrists are in front, secured by iron manacles resting on top of the log. Leoncio asks her once more to comply but when she refuses he orders his minions to place an iron gag. This is a harness gag attached to an iron collar which is locked with a very large and seemingly heavy padlock. There are several close ups of her lovely face framed in this manner with her pleading eyes denoting her misery. Although the dialogue refers to the gag as “iron mask” the looks and fitting of the gag in her face suggest leather material rather than metal.

Later that night an old friendly peasant sneaks in to give her water and milk. He pours the fluids over and around her gag. Presumably Isaura gets to seep some of it between the crevice of the gag and her face. Although the scene is dark it allows us to glance again at the very unique gag (for a day time mainstream show). The following day Isaura is seen very briefly kneeling inside her master’s hacienda and having her collar removed/

Chapters 47 and 48:
Having failed to convince her Leoncio announces that she will be flogged. Isaura is taken outside and bound facing a post with her arms just above her head held by iron manacles in her wrists. There are several lengthy sequences of Leoncio taking to Isaura and threatening very painful lashing if she does not yield to his desires. That night he is ready to strike but can not do it himself and asks his foreman to do it. Ultimately, Isaura never gets to feel the whip because there is a revolt in the hacienda. She is rescued and flees from her master.

Chapter 140 and 141:
Wearing a white ball gown, the lovely Ms. Renaldi is strolling across a field when Leoncio, who remains obsessed by her, kidnaps her with the help of a gun. He applies a nice, long hand gag. We next see her cleave gagged and tied with her hands and taken into a barn. Her abductor removes her socks and applies a n iron anklet to one ankle, attached to a long chain. There is no shortage of excellent close ups and emoting as her captor proceeds to fondle her, threaten her with a knife, and generally overact.

At the beginning of chapter 141 she manages to get knock out Leoncio. She gets the key to the padlock of her anklet from his vest and runs away. Unfortunately for her but fortunately for us, she stumbles, falls, and knocks herself out in a hilariously unconvincing scene, thereby allowing herself to be carried back to the barn and re-secured. No more gags from here on out, though there's a second excellent hand gag sequence, as well as good stuff for carrying and barefoot fans.

The sequence ends with the Leoncio getting fatally stabbed by a third party. Isaura who lost consciousness wakes up and found by the police who immediately blame her for the crime. The officer accuses her while she pleads her innocence. He doesn't bother to untie her. Later Isaura’s boyfriend joins the scene and unties her wrists only for the police to arrest her and putting iron manacles in her wrists then take her to jail (what an irony!).

Chapter 31
In an earlier scene, Rosa (Patricia Franca), another slave girl, is whipped in the same post that Isaura was bound to. Isaura is forced to witness Rosa’s punishment and therefore Leoncio knows how scare she must be at the time he threatens her with the whipping. Rosa has her blouse ripped exposing her back. Her arms are above her head and her wrists are in iron manacles. After the whipping there are bloody streaks on her back.

It is metal; this is the kind of gag, more accurately known as a brank, applied to suicidal slaves to prevent them from eating soil and poisoning themselves. No doubt it was also used as a punishment for the restraint, hunger and discomfort it inflicted.

A leather mouthpiece would require some form of stitching and/or rivets to secure it to the straps, but none is visible. It's a perforated iron plate, hammer-welded to the iron straps.
