Video Page

This page is for posting links to online streaming video, Youtube and things like that. The rules are somewhat looser than Discussion. You can post and discuss mainstream and related amateur video. Do not post clips from commercial videos. It's usually not that hard to tell the difference.

Technical question, sort of... (moved from The Discussion Page)
Not really sure where to post this so I'm hoping the Moderator will take pity on me and not delete this if it's on the wrong place, but rather just move it.

I have an iMac and have been downloading clips from Youtube. Unlike when I had a PC, the Real Player on this Mac (Real Player 11 for Mac OS X) lets me actually keep the downloaded files on my desktop. So I've been watching these files independently of YouTube, and even if YouTube pulls them I still have my copy.

These files have the suffix flv.

Suddenly I can't watch these files anymore. I can still get them on YouTube, but my downloaded versions no longer play. I just get a black window in Real Player and nothing happens.

All my other Real Player files (from Bondageparade, etc.) still play. They are rm files. Only these YouTube flv files don't work.

I tried downloading something just now from YouTube, more flv files, and *they* play. For how long, I don't know.

So in short, does anyone have a clue what's going on here?

Thanks.

John

I use a MacBook and have quite a few flvs from youtube as well. Haven't had any problems with them *yet* but have you tried using anything other than RealMedia to play them?

Here's what I use

http://www.swf-mac.com/swfplayer.html

It's free, and plays all my flvs just fine. Good luck.

This comment "Top 10 list for a higher quality DVD release for sure" was in reference to the 1960's era Daniel Boone clip, not the Blind Obsession clip. The Youtube clip from Daniel Boone while extremely awesome, has very bad color and is quite dark. VCR quality at best. A DVD cleansing of this scene would be a great addition to all our collections. Both scenes are worthy additions.

Hey John-I'm assuming youre using keepvid.com to download from youtube? If so, they typically give you 2 options, & the flv file is the lo quality one. I've always used the high quality option which creates an mpeg file vs a flv.try going that route; I havent had any troubles myself.
This article might be helpful in explaining the differences between the two files. (Note you need a special player for the flv's):

Good luck!

Female of the Species
I know the play "Female of the Species" was discussed a while back, and I found this nice little ad for it. I saw an amateur production with Avery a couple of months back, and it is hystericle.
