| Heads up on another HD upgrade which they've butchered in terms of cropping. Where we used to see Jaime Pressly in all her B&G cuteness, in 4:3 AR, they've now brutally cropped to 16:9; meaning we longer see her shoulders. What a goddamn waste! It's like, they have no problem preserving 4:3 for Blu-ray releases like Batman or Charlie's Angels, but for Amazon they're such sticklers in forcing everything to be 16:9 for viewers' TVs. The recent Baywatch releases on Amazon suffered from this too. |

Lifetime movies are even worse! Blind Obsession's 1080p version not only is cropped to 16:9, but it also is the "TV version" rather than the one released on DVD, because it has the fade-to-blacks for commercial breaks; this actually ruins an excellent gagged close-up of Megan Gallagher. A Deadly Vision is another infuriating example of this. I've been collecting rare fullscreen versions of scenes and my upcoming SeeMore project will allow you to see the best of both worlds. This is still the hardest nut to crack, though AutoOverlay just received a massive upgrade and I'll need to run some tests. Completely out of the blue, no PG cuts, and in better quality than even some Blu-ray reissues (which often have ridiculous amounts of grain, an effect which I loathe with every fibre of my being). The DiD-gods gave us a real gift there. |
