Just color me curious. I did catch "Snuff 102" which seemed to be a TP flick where they tried to fake a story around it to make it "acceptable". But it DID feature a couple of lovelies bound and gagged...they just suffered so very badly. |

Japan in particular has produced some very graphic stuff, preceding the Torture Porn era of Western horror that likely began around the time Saw came out. The Guinea Pig films contain numerous bondage scenes. Flowers of Flesh and Blood is about a Samurai who kidnaps a woman, ties her up, and dismembers her piece by piece, on camera. Italian films also have their moments. Giallo a Venezia is, as the title implies, a "giallo" film whereby a killer has a woman tied to a table with a white tape gag. He proceeds to saw off her leg. He has to smack her to wake her up as she passes out from the pain. I know this fetish well enough to know there are those who will adore these scenes, but the notion of finding such pleasure frankly disgusts me. Just my opinion. |

You are right, there is a thick differnce between enjoying watching a woman tied up to enjoying the disturbing killing and dismembering snuff. If someone likes snuff he should go to a physiatric straight away. You can untie and ungag a woman but you can't bring her back to life or put her leg back in place. |

The aesthetic of a gorgeous woman bound and gagged is something I find worth celebrating - it's a manifestation, in my mind, of the tacit power dynamics that make sex so exciting. Bondage is a transgressive practice that arouses one's desire to break down convention and the routine conduct that revolves around modern "mating" - ie. going to a bar and bragging about one's wealth. I love horror also. I love a good "snuff" film, for many of the same reasons. It is also transgressive. A stark, horrific image awakens dormancies that people all have yet spend so much conscious and subconscious effort subduing. It doesn't arouse me though - I'm simply fancied by the way it makes or once made me feel. Now I love watching how it'll affect others. To combine the two, I don't know. It's just not for me. I have so much love and adulation for women, I can't bear to see them being hurt. |
