Title: ¡Átame! (1989) aka Atame! aka Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! Medium: Movie Actress: Victoria Abril Description: Spanish film that introduced Antonio Banderas to US audiences had Abril as a B-movie actress the released mental patient played by Banderas admires. He kidnaps her and takes her to a vacationing neighbor's apartment, leaving her tied to the bed and gagged with white medical tape. He is trying to wean her off heroin, and they fall in love, of course, while she makes several attempts to escape, even retying and gagging herself when she hears him come back. When her sister finds her, Abril isn't all that anxious to leave, prompting the sister to say "You've fallen in love with your kidnapper? I suppose you like being tied up?" Abril just shrugs. As a fringe benefit to some of us, there are lingering closeups of the captive's bare feet. Scenes start at about 34 minutes of 1 hour 35 minute video and continue to 10 minutes from end. Includes going out to try to get medicines and drugs for the pain from her tooth that was broken in the initial struggle, holding hands while handcuffed together ("39 Steps" style). On a bed in white nightdress with hands cuffed in front (sometimes secured with rope to top of bed then down to ankles and foot of the bed, sometimes just handcuffs in front) white tape gag, even left on while sleeping with little other restraint. She complained that removing the tape hurt and he bought medical tape for later use. When he leaves her she is tied on a bed (hers or neighbour's when he expects someone to come looking at her apartment) hands in front and secured with thin ropes to the bed and her feet. Once she hides a lighter and uses this to burn through the rope to free herself but fails to escape from the locked apartment then reties herself before he returns. Handcuffs, rope, tape gag, a handgag when her sister come to water the plants on the balcony (at 1 hour 20 minutes), bare feet - something for almost everyone (never hands behind). |
