Yeah, but you can write and rewrite up to 100,000 times and does not need to be finalized when taking it to a compatible drive in a computer. You then could try to find a way to decrypt that data into the PC and then rewrite it back to a DVD-+Rs. Then just rewrite over the DVD-RAM. You would only need a pack of 10 RAM discs and may meet your needs.

DVD-RAMs are like virtual DVRs. Assuming the recorder thinks the tape is the "actual" broadcast (not a copy of the broadcast), the recorder may let the CPRM compliant DVD-RAM be recorded on. Since DVD-Rs are not compliant, it will never let you record a tape (even if the recorder thinks the tape is the "actual" broadcast. If your recorder came with a RAM disc like mine, give it a try. I have not had this experience since I don't get HBO.

To save trouble in the future when you are recording HBO, DVD-RAM is the only way to make permanent storage since DVR have limited ability for permanent storage (hard drive space).

Oh yeah, let us know since I am interested in seeing if this works. Theory is sound, but I have no ablility to try.

For now don't worry. Purchase some DVD-RAMs (CPRM compliant ones) and use them to record to when you are taping something as it is currently airing on HBO. Bypass the DVR when copying the HBO airings.
