| Record number: 1864 Title: Scream Bloody Murder (1973) aka The Claw of Terror Medium: Movie Actress: Leigh Mitchell Description: Insane and sexually repressed man kills his mother and stepfather, journeys to Hollywood and kidnaps a prostitute and art student (Mitchell) and hides her in a vacant mansion. After luring her to the mansion he refuses to let her leave, in trying to escape Mitchell falls down the stairs knocking herself out. She comes to lying face up on a single bed. Her wrists are tied at her sides the rope running under the bed, her ankles are similarly secured slightly apart, and a third length of rope runs across her shoulders, a green and white cloth is tied between her teeth This runs across two scenes a minute or so apart, includes some whimpering but no real struggling. In the next scene Mitchell is tied to a dining room chair, her hands behind her back and there is a loop of rope around her waist holding her in place, she is not gagged and her captor is feeding her steak with a fork, She refuses to eat and when her forces her to do so she spits it back at him. She is sobbing When the captor goes out he leaves Mitchell tied in a different chair, in the bedroom, her wrists are crossed and bound behind her back the rope running down to her ankles which are hobbled, a rope is tied loosely around the arms of the chair holding her in place and she is again gagged with the green & white cloth. She wriggles down under the rope at her waist falling to the floor, then pulling herself up she hops across the bedroom, and out into the hall, making her way down the stairs. At the same time a young boy calls at the front door selling cookies, Mitchell loses her footing at the base of the stars and starts calling out through her gag, but is of course unable to make herself heard. Struggling to her feet again she hops across to the front door and tries to open it with her bound hands (there’s a nice close up of the rope around her wrists here), but it is securely locked. She then hears the cookie seller moving onto the next house. The phone rings and Mitchell hops towards the sound, entering the kitchen through a swing door she sees the telephone mounted on one wall and knocks the receiver from it’s cradle before rubbing her gag free on the side of the phone, Getting to her knees she tries calling for help but the caller has rung out. Hoisting herself up again Mitchell dials the operator with her tongue and starts shouting for help. Before she can make herself heard however her captor snatches the phone away (This sequence alone runs 4-5minutes uninterrupted.) In the next scene Mitchell is again gagged and tied down on the bed, this time her captor pulls sheets up over her so only her gagged face is visible and turns the light out The action resumes next day, Mitchell’s captor has set up an artists studio for her and invites her to try painting, her wrists are loosely tied with 2-3ft of slack running round her back giving her enough freedom to paint, her ankles are again hobbled with a few inches between them and there is a rope leach around her back which her captor is holding. When the doorbell rings Mitchell starts screaming and calling out for help. Apparently unworried about their being heard her captor wrestles her to the floor and starts wrapping the rope slack around her wrists tying them in front of her, then secures her in a ball tie before stuffing the green and white cloth in her mouth as a gag, He then drags her to a closet and throws her inside – along with the dead bodies of the house’s original owners. Mitchell screams hysterically into her gag at first then wriggles round and tries to open the closet door with her bound feet. At the same time the visitor – the house owner’s doctor – forces his way into the house and upstairs, when Mitchell starts kicking at the closet door he investigates and opens the door, he is then murdered in front of her. Mitchell is dragged out of the closet and sat on the floor against the opposite wall while her captor puts the body of her rescuer with the others Back in the bedroom Mitchell is tied to the same chair as before, her wrists to the chair arms. She persuades her captor to untie her so she can have a bath and after that is not restrained again. From beginning to end Mitchell’s ordeal lasts roughly 20minutes |
