Sunday October 23 17:30:04 2005 I hope this is just a case of television editing... |
...and not dat ole' debbil scene creep, but here goes:
Record number: 4927 During one of the sex orgie (sic), Bridget Fonda is jumped by a politician while lying on a couch in skimpy clothing and has her wrists leashed together with a black strap. Well, sort of, at least in the version Encore Love Stories broadcast last night. About twenty-five minutes in, Mandy Rice-Davies (Fonda) is jumped not by "a politician" but by none other than her (ahem, ahem) benefactor, Dr. Stephen Ward (John Hurt), who at her request begins lashing her wrists together over her head not with a "black strap" but a stethoscope. After all, what else would a doctor be likely to have at hand? That, however, is the good news. The bad news is that I'm suspicious that the film was bowdlerized (now there's a nice British-sounding word) a bit, given that as soon as Fonda's wrists move off-screen there's a jump-cut to the next scene in the movie. Further fueling my suspicions are several nude scenes later on that seem to be deliberately "fuzzed out" in a manner you wouldn't expect to see in an R-rated movie as recent as this one. Could anyone who's watched this movie let everyone know if the above description is what the database entry author meant, so the entry can be duly updated? If so, was what I saw of it all there was? If not, when was the "black strap" scene? This movie is going to run again on MoreMax in a couple of weeks, so if what I saw last night was an "Encore edit" intended to run in early prime time as it did, I'll get another chance at the real thing soon enough. And believe it or not, this is the first time I've actually sat down and watched the whole thing, even though I'm old enough to remember the Profumo scandal-albeit just barely. I was in about the third grade and can recall some of the names appearing day after day in the newspaper, and wondering just what the euphemistic phrase "party girl" meant. By the way, can any of our friends from across the pond who are of slightly more tender vintage than I clue us in? Just what did ever happen to Rice-Davies and Christine Keeler? |

I offered a correction on this DB entry several months ago. I reiterate my points:
[1] The DiD in question is not rpt not Bridget Fonda. No question the woman is older!! Although I'm not 100% on this, I'm virtually certain it's Britt Ekland, who is listed high up in the cast by IMDb. [2] The scene is not part of an 'orgy'. It takes place in an apartment and there are only 2 participants. [3] I also offered info to indicate that the scene of interest occurs at about 27 minutes in [no ads]. |

"I offered a correction on this DB entry several months ago." Yeah, found it over on Discussion Page. One favour, in future put over here on Corrections page as I read this page more carefully. Thanks Ref |

I checked after posting, and, indeed, it was there. I just assumed that you folk were waiting for confirmation from a second source, as it were, before fixing the DB entry. Anywhooo, believe me when I say it most definitely is not Bridget Fonda who is briefly strapped in the scene in question. A much older and very blonde lass has that distinction, almost certainly Britt Ekland. |
