Sort of like, “when does a stream become big enough to be called a river?” I would use the following as the criteria: If the binding material is so thin that it can be knotted effectively as if it were rope, one could then say that the material has the girl tied (up). By “knotted effectively”, I mean that the material is so thin that a knot tied in it can be dressed (that is, set) so tightly that no light is visible through the knot. Otherwise, one would say that the girl is being (strap) restrained. Of course, you could get into all kinds of nuances. For instance, a strap of soft treated buckskin could be flexible enough to knot effectively, whereas a hard leather belt of the same width might require a buckle to be truly effective. I suppose that this debate will go on for days. Anyway, that’s my two coppers’ worth. |
