I strongly disagree with changing that. IMDb is going by the 2001 festival release date, when the actual DVD release worldwide was 2002. It should be changed back.

I actually noticed the discrepancy in the release dates when I looked at the entry this morning, but I decided to go along with the change. My reasoning was that when you do an IMDB search on a title, the only way to tell them apart is by going with the date listed next to the title. The only way to verify where and when the date applies is by burrowing into the supporting data.

We've never actually defined what we mean by date, except for Brian stating that they aren't necessary except when there's a chance of confusion.

Much as I see your point here, I'd vote for matching the IMDB first line data, just to simplify searches, but I'd like to get input from other interested parties before we decide.
