Generally, I agree with the two of you that the original title should be used. But I strongly suggest we also include a title version without accents and other uncommon characters. In this case, neither "Atame" nor "átame" (even case insensitive!) produced a hit when searching.

Example: I'm very grateful I don't have to search for Danish actress Sofie Gråbøl using the correct Danish spelling.

Seconded. I've encountered this problem when searching for Spanish-language programs on my system's schedule guide, and it's a certified pissmeyer.

High Tide TV series
I was looking up the series High Tide.
I noticed a duplication of sorts.
DB entries 5167 and 5491 are the same scene. They should be combined (one hasthe actress name & episode title, the other a fuller description).

[5491] High Tide
Entry Deleted:
Record number: 5491
Title: High Tide
Medium: TV Series
Actress: Sharisse Baker

Description: Episode: "Deep Blue C Notes" (3.2)

In this episode, Ms. Baker becomes a bondagette.

Reference: Brent Smith's tape indexes. Most of the scenes on these videos are of the 'bound and gagged' variety, but let the renter/taper beware.

Oh yeah,
have to copy paste that from IMDB and coach to copy paste that from IMDB for searches

It wouldn't be too hard to write a script to identify all titles and actress names with accents and/or non-Roman characters but without simplified alternate spellings. I'll look into that if I get a chance.

title/date cleanup
So as I've mentioned, I started playing around with a script to check the database info against the IMDb. Right now it only looks at title and date information, but it seems to be working pretty well. Here's an example of the output:

710|Angel Dust|1994: alternate title match
731|The Guyver|1991: no match
756|Deadly Past|1994: date mismatch (should be 1995?)
767|Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome|1985: no match
772|Black Panther|1977: no match
773|Evil Town|: missing date (should be 1987?)
774|The Nightcomers|1971: date mismatch (should be 1972?)
791|The Killer Likes Candy|1968: no match
792|Asylum of Satan|1972: no match
809|Jackie Chan's Police Story|1985: alternate title match
817|A Candle for the Devil|1973: no match
830|The Price|1985: no match with date, multiple matches without

The only significant limitations are that (a) the IMDb code doesn't seem to want to return alternate titles as advertised, so I can't check for missing alternate titles in Brian's database or try to improve the messaging by comparing his primary titles to the IMDb's alternate ones, and (b) it only works with movies and TV movies at the moment.

It only took me a few hours to fix the errors detected in the first 700 entries. I may not be so masochistic as to try and make it through all 12,000+, but if a few editors felt like tackling chunks of the output, we could get a lot of cleanup done. If anyone is interested in helping with this, drop me a line.

Obviously, it would be cool to check the actress names as well (and cross-check them against the titles), but that's a script for another day.

Oh, and BTW: it would also be easy enough to generate a list of IMDb links, if one were ever interested in linking there directly from the database. And the really cool toy would be to check against the IMDb automatically whenever an entry was submitted or edited, though that would require some work from the Engineer, who I'm sure has enough on his plate already.

Yeah, that was easy. The script only found 172 titles that deserve a look, which isn't that many. I'll take a stab at those, then check on the actress names.
