About halfway in, while investigating at the docks, she is chloroformed from behind. She wakes up in a cellar, tied hands behind and ankles together. Her sister is there also, sitting tied hand and foot and leaning against a post. The sisters immediately begin arguing, but while they do Mary manages to crawl over and untie Jenny, but Jenny refuses to free Mary until she apologizes for past insults.
