The extra step wouldn't make a lot of sense if you don't already have a DVD recorder on hand, but almost any "loss" you encounter is going to happen at the analog->digital stage. "The VHS-to-DVD transfer looked great, but it all went to hell when he ripped from MPEG-2 to H.264," said nobody, ever. I'd just focus on getting the best-quality A->D transfer you can and go from there. |

There's no loss of clarity in the process, the DVD records it in the same quality of the VHS, then the PC has the same digital file that's pulled from the DVD. I don't compress my clips anymore, so they are exactly the quality as recorded from the original VHS. |

This post was deleted. Poster: Thor Reason: There was a confusing email to me about this, but at any rate keep the edit requests on the edit form. I'm going to take out the Raffish post because it won't make much sense in context. In general, people need to be judicious with their edit requests. If you have a lot of things you want edited, it's time to look into getting set up to do it yourself. Abusing volunteers is a good way to have the volunteers unvolunteer. |
