Ties That Bind (2006)
Day: Wednesday January 20 2016
Time: 6:00AM E.S.T.
Channel: Lifetime Movie Network
~
Record number: 12014

Title: Ties That Bind (2006)
Medium: TV Movie
Actress: Nicole de Boer aka Nikki De Boer aka Nicole DeBoer aka Nikki de Boer aka Nicole deBoer aka Nikki deBoer

Description: This made-for-Lifetime movie is a cautionary tale about *not* renting your guest house to psycho/nurses. (Always a sound policy.) Nicole plays Megan, the lawyer/wife, & Brian Krause (Leo on "Charmed") plays the doctor/husband. Sonya Salomaa plays Courtney, the psycho/nurse.

In the last 15 minutes, Megan (dressed casually in jeans, t-shirt, sweater, hoodie, & boots) goes to confront Courtney in the guest house. Courtney pulls a syringe and Megan fades to unconsciousness as the movie fades to commercial. When next we see Megan, it's a closeup of her face. Silver duct tape is tightly plastered to her lips. The camera pulls back, & we (& she) discover she is spreadeagled to Courtney's bed (fully clothed as before), in leather medical restraints. Much struggling and m'mmpfhing ensues, in one of the best gloating scenes I've seen in years. Courtney to Megan: "It's no use fighting. I use those to restrain PCP freakouts." No closeups of the restraints, but we can tell she's really helpless. Numerous closeups of her tape-gagged face, and we can see that the tape is well-adhered to her face. A small sliver of tape repeatedly balloons as she pants & tries to scream. VERY convincing Damsel-in-Distress. Meanwhile, Courtney-the-psycho nurse is delivering a chilling monologue. At one point, she climbs on the bed and rests her head on the same pillow as Megan, & the director gives us a dual closeup. Nicole does an *outstanding* job of selling Megan's plight. Courtney delivers a second injection, & again Megan fades into unconsciousness.

Later, something strange but wonderful happens: When hubbie comes to rescue Megan, her bonds have been changed! It's still the same hospital restraints, but now her wrists are cuffed together and to her ankles, and an additional of pair are strapped now around her elbows! The elbow cuffs and ankle cuffs are strapped to the bed and the wrist/ankle junction is a double "Y" of straps joined with rings. (I believe this is called "four point restraint" by nurses (psycho and otherwise).) Hubbie rips off the tape and frees her wrists and elbows, then Megan does a crunch and frees her ankles. Then it's off to the climax!

Castle ("Reckoning")
Day: Wednesday January 20 2016
Time: 9:00PM E.S.T.
Channel: Turner Network Television

Record number: 19243

Title: Castle
Medium: TV Series
Actress: Stana Katic, Laura Coover, unknown

Description: Episode: "Reckoning" (7.15)

This episode wraps up a recurring plot arc for the Castle series. In a nutshell, a serial killer and his plastic surgeon partner have conspired to kidnap Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) at the end of the previous episode, "Resurrection" (7.14), by injecting her with something and carting her unconscious body away in a wheelchair.

As "Reckoning" (7.15) begins, Castle and the cops have no idea where Kate is or what's happening to her. It's very suspenseful. Stuff happens, including the near-rescue of an unknown woman (actress uncredited) at 16-17mins, who is discovered bound to a chair; her hands are tied to the armrests with rope, feet tied together and to the chair legs, and OTM gagged with a black cloth. She meets her demise at the barrel of a gun triggered to shoot her, but Castle is somewhat relieved that it turns out not to be Kate.

At 19mins an extreme close-up of Kate's eyes shows her awakening in a makeshift operating room. It is very creepy, with medical equipment and lights and the walls and ceiling lined with glistening plastic. She's cleave gagged with a black cloth, lying face up on an operating table, and bound by modern patient restraints. A wide nylon strap is across her ankles and similar straps around her wrists, binding her arms at her sides. Very wide padded restraints are across her torso and thighs. Kate was kidnapped in street clothes, but now she's wearing long pajama bottoms and a white cotton T-shirt. All of this is well-documented by the camera, including many close-ups of her gagged-face, bare feet, and her hands tugging against her bonds. At the end of the sequence the plastic surgeon enters, stating "Oh good, you're awake. We can begin." Kelly, our villainess, is played by Annie Wesching.

A minor scene takes place at 26mins. Castle apprehends cute blonde Amy at gunpoint, demanding information on Kate's whereabouts. Her hands are then bound behind her back with a white ziptie onscreen, and she is forced into a car trunk. She is not shown again.

Later, at 27-29mins, Kate and Kelly have what is (IMHO) one of the great gloating scenes of television. The interaction is very well-staged by the director. Kate is ungagged but the cloth is left around her neck, with Kelly explaining that she intends to have surgery to give herself Kate's face. She spends some time using an elaborate scanning device to record Kate's facial features, then re-gags her to some angry mmpphhing.

Meanwhile, Castle has chased the serial killer to a house in the country. At 31mins he spots a PC monitor showing real-time footage of Kate gagged and strapped to the table, but is overpowered by the man he was looking for all along. He is forced to sit in front of the monitor and watch Kate meet her fate, all while Kate has to watch the scanning device being finalized by Kelly. More great close-ups of this. However, Detective Esposito makes use of his army sniper training and follows Castle's order to "Take the shot." The killer thought he was manipulating Castle, but it was a double-manipulation.

Meanwhile at 37-38mins, back at the doctor's creepy lair, Kate has been busy picking apart the stitching of her left wrist restraint with her fingernails. Kelly keeps trying to call her partner on her smartphone, but as he's now a cooling corpse, the calls don't go through. The calls do serve to lead the cops to her location, however. Finally, she realizes something has gone wrong, so she picks up a scalpel and leans close to Kate begin the facial surgery. A very determined Kate suddenly grabs Kelly's hand with her now free left hand. The expression on Kate's gagged face is priceless; pure venom.

When Castle and the cops finally arrive within less than a minute, Kate is free and standing over the doctor's corpse with the bloody scalpel in her hand.
