Saturday November 10 12:20:37 2012 "The African Queen"-I don't think there's a scene |
Record number: 16368 br> Title: African queen (sic) Medium: Movie Actress: Katharine Hepburn Description: Near the end of the movie, Charlie [Humphrey] (Bogart) and Rose (Hepburn) are condemned to death by a german (sic) officer. They are first married, then noosed, and when they are about to be hanged, then something unlikely happens. I think this should be deleted. Hepburn is never actually bound. or even "noosed," the best I can remember. It's been a while since I've seen the movie so I'll grant that they might have had nooses around their necks, but given what happens afterward it's clear neither she nor Bogart could have been bound. Warning! Spoiler alert! After the famous line from the ship's captain ("I now pronounce you man and wife. Proceed with the execution!") she's shown having one arm pulled behind her just as their makeshift torpedo strikes home, sending everyone sprawling onto the deck and allowing them to make their escape in the confusion. Since they swim away from the wreck, there's no way they could have had their hands tied beforehand. I'll defer to the editors' judgment. If someone who has the movie would be so kind as to watch the ending and confirm I've remembered it correctly, so much the better. |

I seem to recall that we had this same discussion years ago, and you're memory is correct. There is no bondage in the movie's finale. The entry has been deleted. |
