Country tags
I know the tags list was recently finalized, but a new idea came to mind:

"country_"

This would be a VERY useful way of finding scenes where the country's name is flexible (Philippines/Filipino, Switzerland/Swiss, Finland/Finnish, Norway/Norwegian, etc.), and it happens to be another Raffish carry-over. It's also an easy-peasy tag to throw in just from memory alone, whereas I find the "bonddesc_" tags often need a look at the actual scene for verification, even if I otherwise already know it.

I agree that this would be very useful, even if retrofitting 25000 entries is somewhat daunting. We would need to define what which spelling to use for each country if its going to be useful though.

Re: Country tags
As with some of the other tags, the task could be sort of delegated to those who have a region-specific interest. I'm always keen on keeping track of Scandinavian, German (including Austrian and Swiss) and UK scenes, so I could blitz through many of those at my leisure. US is huge, but many editors could tackle that. I've seen many South American dB entries which look like a dedicated pattern, so perhaps they could help out on that front.

Spelling-wise, I don't see what can be open to interpretation since this is an English-language dB. "country_us", "country_uk", "country_germany", "country_russia", etc.

It should be simple, but people tend to get creative when things aren't defined. country_us is fine, but could be entered as country_usa, country_unitedstates, country_america.... UK could be country_uk, or country_UnitedKingdom or country_GreatBritain or country_GB...

I'm just saying we should define the list to make sure that people enter it the same way.

Absolutely, countries with varied naming formats like the above should be set in stone first.

Nonetheless I'm keen to see what the dB folks think of the idea. I, for one, would appreciate such a system hugely, especially in those times when I need to quickly find, e.g. a German scene in which I know all the "bonddesc_" and "gagtype_" specifics, but can't pinpoint a title bcoz not every such scene has "German series"/"Scene from Germany" in the prose.

Barring any objections from Brian or Raf, I'd say go ahead and put the suggestion up on Discussion and see what the other contributors have to say. It seems to be a such a good idea that I doubt anybody will have any problem with adding in the new tags.
